The route

- Yasaka Shrine (Main Grounds) — Take a moment to look around you. You are standing right beside Yasaka Shrine, and while it might seem like just a famous landmark next to Gion, it is actually one of the main structures that makes this entire cultural district possible.
- Maruyama Park Edge — Step with me just a little further along, right to the edge of Maruyama Park.
- Hanamikoji Street — Turn down this corridor and take a good look at Hanamikoji Street.
- Shinbashi Dori — Now step onto Shinbashi Dori. If Hanamikoji is Gion's famous public corridor, Shinbashi is its much more composed and distilled counterpart.
- Shirakawa Canal — Pause right here by the Shirakawa Canal. Notice how this narrow waterline instantly introduces a completely different tempo inside the very same district.
- Tatsumi Bridge & Tatsumi Shrine — Step carefully across the stone and stop right here at Tatsumi Bridge and Tatsumi Shrine.
- Kennin-ji (Zen Temple) — Step through the gate and enter Kennin-ji. Notice how abruptly the district changes register around you.
