On August 6, 1945, the atomic bomb detonated roughly 600 metres above Shima Hospital near the T-shaped Aioi Bridge. Today, the preserved Atomic Bomb Dome stands beside the Cenotaph for A-bomb Victims and the Peace Memorial Museum.
